South Yorkshire is made up of four council areas, Barnsley and Rotherham and the most built up and developed areas, Sheffield and Doncaster. South Yorkshire is home to one of the worlds oldest football clubs Sheffield FC as well as Sheffield Hallam FC, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Doncaster Rovers to name a few. This innovation meant that steel could now be cast, opening up the possibilities. Further to that, in 1929 chemist Harry Brearley invented a rust-less steel soon to be known the world over as stainless steel. This industry has diminished over the years but there are still steel producers in the Sheffield area keeping the heritage going.
